1. Roles and resources
Roles and resources are the people and things that perform the project work. A role is a job title or skill needed to complete an activity.

2. Roles
Roles refer to general titles, such as engineer, inspector, or project manager.

3. Resources
A resource is the specific individual who possesses the necessary skills to complete an activity. Resources may have multiple roles assigned to them, such as engineer and manager, but only one primary role. A resource's primary role is usually the role in which he or she is most proficient or most experienced.

4. Types of resources: Labor, nonlabor, material
Three types of resources are available. The first resource type is labor.
Labor resources are the people needed to complete an activity. They are generally reused between activities and projects. Labor resources are measured in units of time. Their costs are recorded in terms of price per unit, for example, $50 per hour.
The second type of resource is nonlabor, which is the equipment to use to complete the activity, for example, a bulldozer or crane. Just like labor resources, nonlabor resources are measured in units of time, and their costs are calculated based on the length of time for which they are used.
The final resource type is material. These are the consumables needed to complete an activity. Examples of material resources include brick, wiring, metal beams, and lumber. Material resources can be used only once. And their costs are calculated based on the number or amounts used.
